Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of wedding ceremony can we expect from you?
Respect and tradition are important in a wedding, but so is a feeling of vitality and a sense that the wedding ceremony reflects who you really are. I will design and perform a meaningful wedding ceremony which will be completely written just for you. We’ll work together customizing everything to fit your needs entirely, for a unique and memorable experience.

Can we write our own vows?
Absolutely! Writing your own marriage vows can be a wonderful way of personalizing your wedding. If you prefer to use traditional vows, I can provide them. Feel free to include friends and family in your ceremony.

What suggestions do you have for wedding sites?
Anywhere along the beach is a lovely venue for a wedding. Also, Cannon Beach, Manzanita Beach, Oswald West State Park, Hug Point, Nehalem Bay State Park and Ecola State Park offer stunning ocean or bay views.

Can I reserve a beach spot ahead of time for my wedding?
Oregon’s beaches are considered Ocean Shore Recreation Areas open to everyone, so no specific beach site can be reserved to exclude others. However, there is never a problem finding a nice secluded spot to perform a wedding ceremony.

Do I need a permit to have my ceremony on the beach?
If you are having 50 or more guests at a wedding on the beach, or you are planning on using large props for the ceremony, you may need a Miscellaneous Use Permit. You can contact Allison Mangini with Oregon Parks & Recreation at 541-220-3786 for more information.

I know all about the rain and wind on the Oregon Coast. Will the weather interfere with my ceremony?
The wedding will still take place. If we can’t find shelter, we’ll find umbrellas.

How far from Portland is the Oregon Coast?
The Coast is about a 1½ hour drive from Portland. Driving instructions are on the right side of this page.

Are dogs permitted on the beach?
Yes, dogs are welcome.

What activities are available on the Oregon Coast?
The Coast offers countless recreational activities to choose from:  kayaking, clamming, crabbing, surfing, golfing, horseback riding, kite flying, and many, many more.

There are also wonderful restaurants, pubs, wine tastings and great shops to wander and dream.

How do I obtain a copy of my marriage license after you marry us?
I will mail or deliver your signed marriage license to the County Clerk within one business day of the ceremony. The Clerk will then certify the document and record your marriage. The day after filing, you can request, either in person or by mail, your certified copy.

How do I reserve your services as our wedding officiant?
You can pay in full or reserve your date with a 50% nonrefundable deposit. Your balance is due 5 days before the ceremony. You can use Venmo, send a check or use the PayPal “Pay Now” button in the right-hand column of this page.
